A boys’ national school in Kiambu is on spot for sending a student home for allegedly attending a service at a church different from the one he registered for while joining the school.
The Press Point is reliably informed that the student had registered being a Catholic during admission to the institution but decided to attend a Seventh Day Adventist church on this particular day.
Through a suspension letter seen by our team, the school administration sent home the student at 7:30pm on Friday and asked him to be accompanied by both parents while reporting back.
“This is to inform you that the student whose name appears above has permission to leave the school today reason being indiscipline, change of religious denomination without the parents’ consent,” read part of the letter.
The move has raised uproar with Kenyans accusing the school administration of punishing the parents over such a ‘minor’ issue.
“I am a teacher and such act must be condemned. They should have summoned the parents without sending the boy home,” shared Mr Kiarago Dedan.
Another seemingly irritated citizen wondered why the school could not have waited until morning and decided to send the student home at night.
“7.30pm is late. On matters change of church, the boy could have done it to avoid Saturday classes. That’s an indiscipline case,” said Ms Favour Wambui.
