Police in Maua, Meru County have arrested the driver who allegedly stabbed a bodaboda rider to death in public along Maua-Antobochiu road on Monday evening.
A confrontation ensued between Mr Ian Mwenda who was riding towards Antubochiu from Maua town and George Miriti Kalung’e who was driving behind him in a Probox after the rider stopped his motorcycle in the middle of the road to pick his cap that had been blown by the wind.
Witness report recorded at Maua Police Station shows that the furious driver stopped the vehicle and confronted the 25-year-old rider and demanded to know why he had stopped on the road.
The deceased avoided the confrontation and sped off towards Antubochiu market but Mr Miriti followed him, while driving at high speed, and blocked the rider from the front.
“He came out of the vehicle armed with a knife and stabbed him. The knife tore through Mr Mwenda’s chest from the front side and dropped dead on the road,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations shared on Twitter.
After two days of hiding, Mr Miriti was arrested at Mutuati area and blood-stained clothes were recovered from his vehicle that has also been seized.
Search for the murder weapon is underway as the suspect awaits arraignment.
