Tharaka Nithi County Government has poked holes in the 2018/2019 Auditor General’s report showing that 223 vehicles belonging to Governor Muthomi Njuki’s administration do not have logbooks.
According to the report, the vehicles which include, motorbikes and trailers have a value of Sh191.5 million, and that by the time of the audit, the documents were not available.
In a press statement, Tharaka Nithi County director communications, Mr Simon Kobia said the devolved government owns only 181 motor vehicles which include those inherited from former Governor Samuel Mbae Ragwa.
Kobia said out of the 181 vehicles, Governor Njuki government only bought 52 whose legal documentation is available.
He said Njuki inherited 76 vehicles and 53 motorcycles which were grounded and their logbooks were not available.
The Director said some of the vehicles and motorcycles are shells lying in various yards initially owned by the defunct county council.
Kobia maintained that all records of the county government’s expenditure in infrastructure and other areas are available and accessible.
