A sombre mood engulfed teachers and students at Obera Boys Secondary School in Ndhiwa in Homa Bay county after a form three student collapsed and died while playing football with his classmates in the school compound.
According to onlookers, the student hit the ball with his head and collapsed.
Efforts to rush him to nearby hospital for treatment were thwarted as there were no available means of transport.
Central Kabuoch location Chief Capis Olala said a private vehicle contracted by the school to offer emergency transport services was not near the institution during the time of the incident.
The teachers were forced to seek alternative means to rush him to hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival at Samari Medical Centre.
