A police officer has shot dead six people among them his wife before turning the gun on himself in Kabete, Kiambu.
The five others include three men and a bodaboda rider who had rushed to the officer’s home after hearing gunshots.
Reports indicate that Police Constable Benson Imbasi shot his wife Carol on her neck around 3AM on Tuesday killing her on the spot, then walked out of the house with his AK-47 rifle and started shooting at innocent residents.
The three young men were coming from a funeral preparations meeting for one of their friends at Mountain View area before they were accosted by the rogue officer.
Mr Imbasi, after killing the three, then turned the rifle at two other bodaboda riders, one of whom lost his life while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations revealed that two other people, shot during the incident, are in critical condition.
Officers who visited the scene recovered the gun loaded with four rounds of ammunition.
Investigations into the incident are underway to establish what transpired though preliminary investigations show that the officer had a quarrel with the wife.
