Five people sustained minor injuries after a lorry they were traveling in towards Maua from Mandera was swept by floods near Garbatulla police station in Isiolo on Wednesday evening.

The driver of the lorry with five occupants is said to have underestimated the level of the raging waters and tried crossing the flooded lagoon when the vehicle got submerged.

The victims, among them a form three student at Habaswein Boys High School were rescued by police officers and national government adminstrators and rushed to Garbatulla Sub-County hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Police reports indicate that the lorry had other people on board who had alighted before it tried crossing the swollen lagoon.

The five, sources say, have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

The wreckage of the vehicle is still trapped in the waters with operations to remove it likely to commence Thursday morning.
