A Non-governmental Organization (NGO) has moved to court seeking orders to stop the Communication Authority of Kenya from implementing revocation of licenses for more than 100 broadcasters for alleged failure to comply with the licensing policies.
Through lawyer Karugu Mbugua, the African Centre for Corrective and Preventive Action (ACCPA) argues that if implemented, the decision would deny majority of Kenyans their constitutional right to information.
The NGO termed CA’s decision as unconstitutional saying it infringed the freedom of speech and media and therefore should be treated as urgent.
The CA, through a notice dated December 22 cancelled licenses for 19 TV stations and announced plans to revoke licenses for over 100 radio stations across the country for non-compliance with its guidelines and non-payment of fees.
