Detectives in Tharaka South are holding two police officers over alleged involvement in a robbery incident on Thursday.
The two officers based at Nkubu Police Station were arrested after preliminary investigation linked them to an incident where a lorry ferrying Sh600, 000 worth of hardware goods from Isiolo to Tharaka Nithi was blocked by four people at Ura Gate by four people who introduced themselves as police officers.
The four, one of whom had an AK-47 rifle, claimed the products were counterfeit.
The lorry driver Morris Nyaga and his two loaders David Kuyo and Boniface Orito were handcuffed by the officers and bundled into a white personal vehicle and took off towards Kacibine market where they were dumped.
The trio reported the matter at Kiagu police post and probe was immediately initiated.
It was established that the vehicle involved in the incident belonged to one of officers identified as Lekidayo and who police say was in charge of the armoury on the material day and had issued the rifle to his colleague.
The pair then proceeded for unspecified duties that were not booked at the station later raising suspicion on their whereabouts during the incident.
The lorry was found abandoned while empty.
