Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti has withdrawn his reelection quest and endorsed Nairobi Majority Leader Abdi Guyo to take over from him.
During a Sakuye elders meeting in Nanyuki, Dr Kuti announced his retirement from active politics after having served for 20 years as MP (two terms) and Senator once.
The move was prompted by his deteriorating health condition that started last December.
Mr Guyo, who had declared interest in the Embakasi Central MP seat, was crowned as Sakuye elder and given baton to be the community’s “kingpin”
Others in the race are former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission boss Halakhe Waqo and former Governor Godana Doyo who remains a frontrunner.
Mr Guyo hailed Dr Kuti for what he termed as making critical decision and personal sacrifice to step down from the race and politics.
“I am humbled by the trust he has in my leadership. I thank the elders who engaged me to take up the position and vie for Isiolo gubernatorial seat,” he shared.
He exuded confidence that he will clinch the seat.
