Over 300 street families in Isiolo have received food and non-food items from Hands of Hope, a local youth group, in partnership with several partners among them Isiolo North MP hopeful Mwenda Thuranira.
The donations included flour, clothes and sanitary pads for girls to take the through the festive period.
Other partners were Nominated Senator Abshiro Halakhe and Isiolo Catholic Church Communication’s Director Fr Simon Githaiga.
Ms Annah Ekiru, who has lived in the streets for more than four years, said the donation would take her three-year-old son for some time and appealed to other well wishers to follow suit.
“Majority of us are in serious need and we urge those with something to share with us and our families, “she appealed.
According to Mr Thuranira, several families are in dire need of food assistance and therefore urgent need to salvage the young people currently in the streets.
He said he was committed to alleviating street families of the suffering they go through promising to offer them a sustained source of livelihood if elected the MP in the 2022 general elections.
“I am on a mission to rescue and rehabilitate those in the streets and putting in place programs that will ensure they are self reliant so they do not get back to the streets,” he said.
Hands of Hope Coordinator Peter Mutua appealed to other well wishers to join the group in assisting vulnerable groups.
“We appeal to our leaders and fellow young people to join us so we can continue helping the less fortunate in the county,” Mr Mutua said.
