After nearly five years of struggle with the Isiolo County government to clear Sh3 million debt for school buses, Merti Muslim Girls and Bulesa Secondary Schools’ are a happy lot following payment of the money.
The buses were delivered in 2016 but their logbooks and number plates held by the supplier over the county’s failure to clear the balance.
With the buses’ use limited for lack of the required documents, they continued to gather dust at the schools.
After several previous attempts to have the county clear the bill turning futile, local residents protested expressing fears that the motor vehicles would be confiscated.
According to Bulesa Secondary school principal Adan Boru, the debt had been cleared and the seized documents handed over to the school.
The school head said the buses, which lay idle in the compound will help cut transport costs.
