Police in Laikipia are hunting down bandits who broke into two shops at Kamwenje centre in Ng’arua and stole goods of unknown value last night.

The criminals were spotted by General Service Unit (GSU) officers prompting a fierce fire exchange with police officers and resulting to the death of one of the attackers.

The other attackers managed to escape with gunshot wounds during the Friday night incident.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said two AK-47 rifles and 13 rounds of ammunition were seized after the shootout.

Detectives are combing local health centres and surrounding hospital where the bandits are believed to be seeking treatment for the wounds.

Residents have been asked to report to police should they spot people with gunshot injuries.

“Hospitals that may receive any patient seeking treatment for gunshot injuries should report to police,” DCI shared on Twitter.
