The government has lifted the cessation of movement in Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and Nakuru and announced that curfew will start at 10pm and end at 4am.

President Uhuru Kenyatta during Labour Day celebrations at State House said the Covid-19 infections in Nairobi had reduced with 74 percent from 56, 815 in March when the containment measures were introduced on March 26 this year.

Similar trend was observed in the four other counties, Mr Kenyatta said, adding that for the last one month of lockdown, the caseload in the zoned area had dipped by 72 percent.

While announcing the lifting of the movement restrictions under Public Order 3 of 2021, the Head of State said the curfew hours in the zones counties, like in other counties, will commence at 10:00pm and end at 4:00am, with effect from mid-night on May 1, 2021.

In-person and congregational worship will resume but in strict observance to the health protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and the Interfaith Council. The a third rule (capacity of the place of worship) to continue.

The President also announced resumption of operations of restaurants and eateries in the five counties and encouraged them to utilize outdoor spaces to ensure physical and social distancing.

Schools will reopen in accordance with the calendar earlier issued by the Ministry of Education.

Bars will operate until 7PM in the evening.

Mr Kenyatta extended the ban on political gatherings indefinitely.

“The interventions are geared towards responding to the unprecedented health threat that has gripped the world,” Mr Kenyatta said adding that the measures and restrictions were instituted with no joy.
