Youths from Isiolo’s Ameru Community have called on ‘some’ community leaders they describe as selfish and rogue to exit leadership positions to ensure unity among members.
The youths said it was unfortunate that those purporting to be working towards ensuring the members are united were out to push for their personal interests.
“We will not sit and watch people who we have tasked to push the community forward lead us astray. We (youth) will call them out until they take a back seat and allow those will genuine interests to lead the community,” said Ameru Youth Chairperson Jojes Mailutha.
The official decried that the youths had for a long time suffered due to poor leadership that saw them lose their share from the county leadership, saying, time had come for them to fight for their rights.
The group’s Secretary Morris Mfalme told off a section of community leaders who he claimed were out to divide youths along their clan lines saying they would not allow such to happen.
“We want all youth issues to be handled at a central point to ensure all the sub-clans benefit. The issue of youths aligning themselves to their subclans is of no importance, we need to unite as the Ameru community,” he told journalists in Isiolo.
Mr Morris called on local elected leaders to consider the Ameru Youth while supporting other communities.
Another youth representative Wilson Kubania called on the Tigania Sub-clan Community leadership to allow their youth join the larger Ameru group to enhance their bargaining power.
Another official Dennis Kaimenyi said they would not relent until they achieve unity of purpose that would uplift the lives of their members.
“We shall speak the same language of unity until we reap maximum benefit,” noted Mr Kaimenyi.
The team spoke during a meeting that brought together tens of their members to discuss opportunities that they could explore for their own benefit.
