A local radio station in Isiolo has transiently shut its doors following a row pitting six journalists with the management over unpaid three-month salaries.
Radio Baliti, apparently owned by National Land Commission (NLC) Commissioner Tiya Galgalo, has been off for more than two weeks due to the stalemate that the journalists have already reported to the local Labour office.
The aggrieved journalists are demanding over Sh300, 000 and claim the management locked the station and barred them from picking some of their personal stuff.
The officer in charge at the Isiolo town Labour office Mr Maurice Mpuria confirmed that the journalists had visited his office but were advised to sort out the matter with Ms Galgalo by September 19, 2021 and if not contented, register the complaint as a dispute for investigations to be launched.
“Before we register a dispute we try to check whether the accused has completely refused to settle or not,” Mr Mpuria told The Press Point.
The officer refused to divulge more details into the matter, maintaining that it was yet to be registered as a dispute between the warring parties.
“If it proceeds to my level and I register it as a dispute I will share it as a labour dispute. I expect to have a report by Sunday and if it is not solved, I will register the complaint on Monday,” Mr Mpuria added.
Contacted, Ms Galgalo, who is the former Isiolo Woman Representative, did not pick our calls and had not responded to our messages by the time of going to press.
