Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif has appointed to his cabinet former Isiolo Nominated MCA Sumeya Bishar who unsuccessfully contested for the County Woman Rep seat in the August 9 elections.

Ms Bishar who is DAP-K Deputy Secretary-General has already been vetted by the Mandera County Assembly Committee on Appointment Chaired by Speaker Omar Mohamed for Social Services, Youth, Sports, Culture and Gender Affairs docket.

The politician had before her nomination by Jubilee Party in 2017 worked at Barclays Bank as Customer Relations Manager for four years and with the United Democratic Forum Party for two years before it was dissolved in 2016 following Jubilee Party merger.

She is a Management and Leadership PhD student at the Management University of Africa where she also pursued her Masters’ degree in the same field.

The immediate former Isiolo deputy Majority Leader holds a degree in Finance from Strathmore University.

Ms Bishar, County Secretary and Attorney nominees Billow Issack Hassan and Hussein Adam Somo respectively were grilled Saturday as the three-day approval hearings for the 10 county executive nominees that started on Thursday came to an end.

Nominees Bashir Ibrahim Alio (Education), Dr Mohamud Adan Mohamed (Health), Amina Hassan Ahmed (Roads, Public Works and Housing), Ibrahim Mohamed Adan (Finance and Economic Planning) and Mr Mohamed Ali Omar of Water, Energy, Environment and Climate change were vetted on October 27.

Other appointees Nadhifa Ahmed Mohamed (Trade and Cooperatives), Barre Mohamed Shabure (Public Service, Devolved units, Adminstration and Cohesion), Salah Maalim Alio (Lands and Urban Development) and Adan Dagane Hamud of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries were interviewed yesterday.

The committee will prepare a report which will be tabled in the Assembly for approval by the MCAs after which swearing in of the successful nominees will be done.

“The Committee has today concluded vetting of the county executive members today who if approved by the committee and the House will form Governor Mohamed’s first cabinet,” the County Assembly shared.
