Baringo County residents have taken to social media criticizing the county’s referral hospital management of privatizing the facility’s toilets following introduction of Sh10 charges to use them.
The residents said was unfortunate that despite the poor state of the toilets, locals had to be charged to use them citing it as taking advantage of the poor citizens.
They claimed that despite the county spending lots of money in paying cleaners, the toilets were in many cases left unattended to exposing those using it to infections.
The locals and human rights activists have demanded an explanation from the facility’s management as to why the charge was introduced.
But, Medical Director Salome Chelimo said the charge was introduced to ensure proper maintenance of the toilets.
According to Ms Chelimo, the toilets were open to outsiders including boda boda operators.
She said the facility was established by the hospital’s welfare group.
