Health facilities across the 47 counties might soon be overwhelmed with the increasing Covid-19 infections due to testing challenges.
The Council of Governors on April 21 said testing of Coronavirus had slowed down in the counties due to lack of kits and that the devolved units had no control over the increasing infections.
“The Ministry of Health should avail rapid testing kits and PCR Covid-19 testing equipment to all counties to stem the spread of the disease,” CoG Chair Anyang Nyong’o said.
Prof Nyong’o said the decreasing positivity rate witnessed in the last few days was as a result of reduced testing across the country and that the country was not out of the woods yet.
The testing kits will ensure proper documentation and factual situation of the fast-spreading virus which will guide in ensuring appropriate response measures.
The Governors raised concerns over low uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine by the groups targeted in phase one of the exercise.
“Counties will enhance advocacy measures to increase public confidence on the Covid-19 effectiveness,” the Kisumu Governor said in a press statement.
