Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is the moment popular party in Kenya with Orange Democratic Movement in second position.
UDA leads at 33 percent followed closely by Raila Odinga’s ODM at 32 percent while Jubilee and Wiper Democratic Movement stand at 2 percent. Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC Party stands at 1 percent.
But Mr Odinga would defeat Dr Ruto if elections were to be held today.
The ODM chief popularity has grown in the last one year from 13 percent to 25 percent in November 2021 and 33 percent in December.
His main challenger in the Presidential contest Dr Ruto’s popularity has since December dropped from 44 percent to 34 percent in November and 32 percent in December this year.
A poll by Infotrak shows next year’s Presidential contest will be a two-horse race between Mr Odinga and DP Ruto.
Majority of Kenyans want One Kenya Alliance (OKA) to dissolve and support either DP Ruto or Mr Odinga with 52 percent of those interviewed calling for the leaders to support either of the two while 55 percent suggesting that OKA supports Mr Odinga.
Forty four (44) percent of those interviewed want Mr Mudavadi picked as a running mate.
The Deputy President, the poll shows, is more popular in Central, Rift Valley, Eastern and Nairobi while Mr Odinga in Coast, Western, Nyanza and North Eastern.
DP Ruto’s popularity in Central Kenya currently stands at 42 percent while Mr Odinga is at 16 percent.
