Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition reaped big from the Monday’s by-elections after bagging five out of the eight elective seats while Kenya Kwanza got two.
ODM’s Fernandez Barasa has been declared Kakamega Governor elect after flooring ANC’s Cleophas Malala in race to succeed Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. Barasa garnered 192, 929 votes against Mr Malala’s 159, 508.
In Mombasa, ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir won the Governor race after garnering 119, 083 votes followed by United Democratic Alliance’s Hassan Omar who got 98, 105 votes.
Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga also bagged Kacheliba, Pokot South and Kitui Rural MP seats while Paul Chebor of UDA thrashed Rongai two-term MP Raymond Moi after garnering 27, 021 votes against Moi’s 14, 715 votes.
Pokot South MP David Pkosing retained his seat on Kenya Union Party after beating Simon Kalekem of UDA while Titus Lotee of KUP dislodged UDA’s Mark Lomunokol to clinch Kacheliba MP seat.
Mr Lotee got 20, 073 votes while the outgoing MP garnered 17, 903.
Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika of Wiper Party retained his seat after garnering 19, 745 votes trailing UDA’s Charles Mutisya who got 10, 178 votes.
In Meru’s Nyaki West MCA contest that attracted a total of 16 candidates, Mubichi Kirima of UDA was declared the winner after garnering 2026 votes against closest competitor Lewis Kithinji of former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s DEP 1976.
In Nairobi’s Kwa Njenga MCA race, Independent candidate Francis Kiragu floored UDA’s Fransica Kibagendi Kwamboka after garnering 2098 votes against Ms Kwamboka’s 1344.
