A prison warder attached to Industrial Area Prison has been arrested for sneaking drugs into the correctional facility.
Constable Tobias Mwanje was arrested while entering the main prison gate on a motorcycle after an officer manning the gate suspected him of “fishy” business due to his uneasy look.
On search, 500 grams of bhang and 100 rolls of the narcotics wrapped in plastic bag, five packets of cigarettes and two packets of Rizzler were recovered.
The officer was immediately escorted to one of the senior officers offices before an accomplice Joshua Kala was arrested while at the gate moments after he called the warder informing him to pick another parcel.
“The caller told him to go and pick another parcel at the prison’s main gate,” a source revealed.
A trap was laid and Mr Kala arrested while waiting at the entrance with 100 rolls of bhang.
The pair are detained at Industrial Area Police Station as probe continues.
