A police officer based at Laare Police Station is fighting for his life at a Meru hospital after he was attacked and his hand chopped by a theft suspect while he tried to arrest him.
Reports indicate that the officer together with two other colleagues had gone to arrest the man suspected to be involved in livestock theft when he was attacked.
The suspect reportedly attacked the officer with a panga leaving him with serious injuries.
The suspect upon interrogation said he did not realize the victim was a police officer while he tried to defend himself against the arrest.
Laare OCS Ezra Sambu said investigations had been launched and urged residents to desist from taking law into their hands.
