Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has ordered the Meru Referral Hospital management to release patients held at the facility over unpaid fees.
“I have waived all hospital bills for patients who are extremely poor and deserving who are held at the facility,” she announced during a visit at the hospital.
She said the hospital’s facility improvement fund will help address drug crisis that had exposed patients to inexplicable suffering for buying drugs at local chemists that sell at exorbitant prices.
The county boss said her administration was keen on addressing congestion at the facility through establishment of a private wing as well as equipping the ward block that had been constructed by her predecessor Kiraitu Murungi.
To ensure the critical health sector is run professionally, Ms Mwangaza said the county’s Health Executive member and Chief Officer will be picked among the health workers.
The Governor also ordered payment of two-month delayed salaries for over 500 clinical officers and nurses that had been held by the previous regime after the workers took part in industrial strike over lack of promotions and delayed payments.
“I have ordered prompt payment of health workers whose money had been withheld for about two months’ for participating in a legal industrial strike,” she said.
During a visit at the facility, the county boss said the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) shall help bring to an end drug crisis that had befell on the facility.
