Some 600 casual workers who had been recruited by former Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti will be paid their pending salaries that have accumulated for many months, Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo has announced.
The county boss said a supplementary budget will be prepared in three weeks’ time to take care of the salaries as “had not been budgeted for”.
Having previously rendered services, the Governor said, the workers deserved to be paid but maintained that his administration would not require their services.
“Your pending dues will be paid but you must leave,” he said while announcing measures to correct a huge wage bill that he said would be painful but of benefit to Mwananchi.
During Mashujaa Day celebrations, the county boss stressed on the need to save money paid to ghost workers to undertake development projects.
“Why should we employ hundreds of workers whose services are not needed?” he posed.
Stating that his leadership would be different from that of his predecessor and pioneer Governor Godana Doyo, he said he will not be shaken by protests promising to streamline all the county departments for improved service delivery.
“Those who like demonstrating should notify me earlier so that I facilitate them for as long as they want so that when they are done, they go back to their homes,” he jokingly said.
The Governor maintained that his focus was on delivering promises he made to the electorates and not post 2027 politics.
“Be patient with us and support our reform initiatives,” he told residents at the event.
Mr Guyo warned county workers against laziness saying they should all diligently serve the residents or “pack and go”.
“I do not care whether you are from my clan or not. If you’re not diligently serving Mwananchi, you will go home,” he warned.
His administration, he said, will scale-up food distribution to starving families and collaborate with the national government in reaching out to 30,000 families facing hunger in the county.
