A court in Kisii has ordered mental assessment for a police officer who assaulted a man held at Kisii Central Police station for breaching dusk to dawn regulations and who succumbed to injuries three days later.
The 36-year-old Boniface Maubi, who is facing murder charges, in the company of his colleagues reportedly attacked and seriously injured 38-year-old Bramuel Chakunza a week ago for violating the curfew rules.
Kisii Resident Magistrate Dorcas Mac Andere, directed that the officer be detained at Kisii Police station for one week to allow the assessment test which will be done at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Post mortem report showed that the deceased died from internal bleeding inflicted by a blunt object.
