A Mombasa court has jailed for 20 years Madrassa teacher for defiling a 12-year-old girl at his home in Majengo, Mvita Sub-County.
The court found Mr Issa Kusow Hassan guilty of the offence that he committed in February 2019 at his residence that he converted into a learning centre accomodating more than 50 pupils.
The girl, in her testimony in court, said Mr Kusow on material day released other pupils to go for breakfast at their homes but asked her to remain behind.
The man would later order her to his office where he defiled her while covering her mouth and face with a hijab, the minor said.
Mr Kusow, the girl told the court, warned her against revealing to anyone and threatened to kill her if she revealed to anyone what happened.
Her mother, who kept asking the daughter what was bothering her as she looked disturbed, would a month later learn of the incident after the girl opened up.
The experience was so ugly that the girl would sometimes refuse to attend the Madrassa classes, the mother testified in court.
Mr Kusow’s house had three rooms, two of which were used for Madrassa classes according to documents submitted in court showed.
A medical report showed that the girl was defiled.
The suspect denied committing the act and claimed that he was fixed by the girl’s father and other parents who were allegedly jealous of the progress the institution was making.
However, his testimony contradicted that of his wife who maintained that the husband had no personal differences with the minor’s father.
Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti on Thursday found the evidence by the prosecution compelling and sentenced Mr Kusow to 20 years imprisonment.
