Acting Nairobi County Governor Ann Kananu Mwenda has vowed to battle it out for the City’s gubernatorial seat in 2022.
Addressing mourners at her aunt’s burial in Mugumango village in Maara constituency, Tharaka Nithi County on Friday, Ms Kananu asked other hopefuls to prepare for a run for their money.
Ms Kananu said though she is currently in an acting capacity, those plotting her downfall should get used to her as the Nairobi governor.
“I will contest for the Nairobi governorship in 2022. Those thinking that I am seated on the fence should start getting used to me as the City governor,” said Ms Kananu.
She praised President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Opposition chief Raila Odinga for putting aside their political differences and agreeing to work as brothers for the sake of peace and unity in the country.
She lauded the Ameru Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders for standing with her amid a storm over her appointment as deputy governor and promised not to let them down.
Kananu who has roots in Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties said President Kenyatta has a lot of confidence in the Ameru performance and that is why he trusted her with the City leadership.
“Njuri Ncheke prayed for me and assured the President I am capable of serving as Nairobi boss and I will not let the elders down,” she said adding that she is the firstborn of the famous handshake.
