A woman who was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and magazine loaded with more than 10 rounds of ammunition has confessed to possessing the firearm without a permit.
Appearing before Mandera Court on Thursday, Ms Jamila Maalim Eymoi said she was transporting the gun to a prospective buyer. The firearm has been sent to Nairobi for ballistic tests.
She pleaded guilty to being in possession of ammunition without a permit and for getting into the country through an illegal route.
It is suspected that the woman stole the firearm in Bulahawa, Somalia and then sneaked into Kenya with it earlier this week before proceeding to Busley estate past Mandera town.
In her testimony, Ms Eymoi said she was picked by a man at the border point who took her to Mandera town where she was to meet the buyer.
Judgment will be delivered on April 26, 2021.
