Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has a full basket of goodies for the county residents next year.
In his State of the County Address at the county assembly chambers in Kathwana on Tuesday, the county chief said he had embarked on a serious campaign dubbed ‘County Mashinani’ which encompasses physical inspection of all the ongoing projects in the 15 wards to check on their status.
He said he will make sure that even the completed projects are serving the intended purposes so as to add value to the lives of the people.
“I want to make sure that I fulfill my 2017 campaign manifesto before 2022,” Njuki said.
On health matters, Njuki said that he had ensured the availability of quality and affordable services by operationalizing nine dispensaries distributed across the county’s three constituencies.
He noted that by next year he will also open 10 others in order to bring the total number of health facilities in the county to 115.
On agriculture, the county boss said 20,000 farmers had benefited from 20 metric tonnes of beans and 20 metric tonnes of green grams free of charge this season.
He said 4000 seedlings of macadamia, 4000 seedlings of avocado and 30 metric tonnes maize among other assorted seeds and seedlings have been distributed to farmers this season.
He said though the pandemic had hit hard businesses, the county government has managed to increase revenue collection from Ksh242 million in 2018/2019 financial year to Ksh271.6 million this year.
He said his government had put in place serious measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus and that the health department is prepared to handle the infected.
He noted that to make sure there are enough specialists in the health sector, a number of health workers are currently undergoing specialist training especially doctors.
Njuki asked the residents to support Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) because it has got very many good things including the proposal to increase county allocation from the current 15 percent to 35 percent of the national budget and five percent to be set aside for ward development fund.
He urged the MCAs to endorse the document once its brought to the plenary.
