Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has taken an about-turn on the ongoing push for constitutional amendments through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and demanded that the exercise be pushed to after the next year’s general elections.
The Presidential hopeful who for several months opposed BBI on grounds that the process was illegitimate as ‘had nothing to do with Kenyans and that was driven by few individuals’ in February made a U-turn and supported the document after meeting with MCAs from Makueni and Machakos counties.
He then said he had listened to the voice of the people, and that he had chosen to respect the will of the people.
But nearly two months after supporting the amendments, Prof Kibwana on April 19 said it was not judicious to handle reconstitution of the electoral body (IEBC), delimitation of constituencies, referendum and the general elections in the coming 12 months.
“After the elections, we should revisit the Bomas draft,” the Governor shared on Twitter.
