Former anti-graft agency boss Halakhe Waqo will appear before Parliament to answer questions on multimillion-shilling Kenya Medical Supplies Authority scandal on March 5, 2021.
Mr Waqo was to appear before the National Assembly’s Public Investment Committee on Tuesday but requested to appear before the MPs on Friday.
Mr Waqo has been adversely accused of helping Aszure Commercial Services secure a Sh347 million loan from First Community Bank (FCB) to supply KN95 masks to Kemsa.
Earlier, Aszure director, Zubeida Nyamlondo, while appearing before the National Assembly’s Public Investment Committee (PIC) said that the company had no money by the time it was being awarded the tender but Mr Waqo offered to assist secure the loan.
The company won the tender without producing a letter of intent.
The company director told the committee that she was simply asked to produce samples of the masks and four days later, Aszure won the tender.
The furniture company was cleared to supply 50,000 boxes of masks at Sh690 each.
The summon by the committee chaired by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir seeks to establish if he is the faceless owner of Aszure Commercial Services Ltd.
The MP said Mr Waqo who has expressed interest in Isiolo’s gubernatorial seat in 2022 must explain under what capacity he helped the company.
The legislators also seek to find out why the company, which had an account at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), decided to borrow from First Community Bank.
