Wabera MCA aspirant George Kareithi has been charged for reportedly assaulting Andeline Kanana on February 6 at Mwangaza area.
Appearing before Isiolo Principal Magistrate Evanson Ngigi, the vocal leader pleaded not guilty to grievous harm charges.
His lawyer appealed to the court to compel the prosecution to amend the charges arguing that permanent disability could not be determined in 10 days.
The accused had before his arraignment been detained for one week to allow police to complete investigations including having the victim record statement.
But the prosecution opposed the application saying it had been overtaken by events as the accused had already taken plea.
The prosecution further submitted that the issues raised by the accused would be determined in the course of trial.
While making the ruling, Magistrate Ngigi said the court did not know the extent of the injury as P3 form had not been produced and directed that the matter be dealt with at a later stage.
The court dismissed the application to amend the charges.
Mr Kareithi’s lawyer pleaded with the court for lenient bond terms saying his client was a family man.
The suspect was released on Sh50, 000 cash bail or Sh100, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on March 3 and heard on June 16 2021.
