Police in Isiolo are holding a man for allegedly planning to subject his 13-year-old daughter to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Oldonyiro.
Mr Stero Lekalkuli, who had gone into hiding after some relatives notified authorities of his plan to subject the class seven pupil to the painful procedure, was later apprehended by family members who then handed him over to police.
The incident was reported at Oldonyiro Police Station on April 2, 2021 and police immediately launched investigations into the matter.
Police reports indicate that on arrival at Mr Lekalkuli’s home, police officers did not find him and ordered the family members to take him to the station once he shows up.
The minor has been placed in safe custody while the father awaits arraignment on Tuesday when he is likely to be charged with subjecting the minor to the cut.
