Elders from Turkana community in Isiolo have brokered a truce between former Isiolo North MP Joseph Samal and Dr James Loasa, both who had expressed interest in the MP’s seat, bringing to an end their political rivalry.
The two leaders had vowed to proceed to the ballot threatening the community’s likelihood of clinching the seat currently held by Hassan Odha.
The agreement will see the duo seek different political positions with Mr Samal getting the nod for the MP’s seat and Dr Lowasa for Governorship.
Their coming together will revive the community’s hopes of having their son elected as the MP in the 2022 elections that have attracted 10 aspirants.
“After intense consultations, the two leaders have agreed to support each other. Mr Samal will be our sole MP candidate and Dr Lowasa will now vie for Governorship,” Agostino Loreng leading Taskforce that undertook the mediation said.
During an event in Ngaremara last Saturday, Turkana community leaders said they will get into alliances with other communities to achieve their political ambitions.
“If the votes will not be enough to propel Dr Lowasa to Governorship, we will be willing and ready to listen to proposals from candidates from other communities,” he noted.
Mr Samal and Dr Lowasa stressed on the need for the Turkanas to work with other communities to galvanise their support for various posts.
“This is the community’s position. Mr Samal will vie for Isiolo North MP seat and I will vie for Governorship. Our differences are over and we are united,” Dr Lowasa said.
Mr Samal will battle it out with MP Odha, Mwenda Thuranira, Abdilatif Boru and Lucy Mworia among other aspirants.
