Three Chogoria Girls’ High School students and the driver of a 14-seater Nissan matatu that they were traveling in have this morning died in a road accident at Kambiti area in Murang’a County along the Meru-Nairobi highway.

The students were traveling to Nairobi for holiday from the school in Tharaka Nithi County when the matatu collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.

Confirming the accident, Murang’a South Sub-County Police Commander Alexander Shikondi said the lorry was transporting bags of potatoes.

Tharaka Nithi County Director of Education Ms Bridget Wambua said she had received the bad news but was yet to get full details.

“I have just learned about it, no clear details yet,” said Ms Wambua.
