A man who was disqualified from Garissa Assembly Speaker’s contest under unclear circumstances has challenged election of Abdi Idle Gure in court saying his right had been violated.
Ismail Arale, who unsuccessfully contested Balambala MP seat in August 9 elections, want election of Mr Gure nullified and action taken against the Assembly clerk Mohamed Santur.
The candidate filed a case at Garissa High Court under certificate of urgency but served the clerk hours after the new Speaker had taken oath of office.
The petitioner said he was shocked to find his name missing from the list of shortlisted candidates a day to Wednesday’s exercise despite having earlier submitted all the required documents including IEBC clearance.
He claimed that on asking staffers at the clerk’s office, he was told the name was removed as had not allegedly attached some testimonials.
Only five out of the eight who had expressed interest were shortlisted for the position.
Others were Abdiwelli Kassim, Issa Hussein, Mohamed Abdullahi, Mahat Osman Ibrahim, Muse Dahir, Ahmed Mohamed and Abdi Ali.
