Farmers in Tharaka Nithi County have received a major boost following the donation of digital tablets and motorbikes by the Kenya Climate-Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP).
The farmers received 100 digital tablets and nine motorbikes through the county department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
The tablets are set to digitize farm records while the motorbikes will aid the mobility of agricultural extension officers across the county to meet farmers.
Speaking during the official handover of the items in Chuka town, the County Agriculture Executive Njue Njagi reiterated the devolved government’s commitment in partnership with the KCSAP to eradicate food shortage in the area through farmers empowerment.
“Our endevour is to eradicate hunger and in our county through investment in farmers empowerment,” he said.
Governor Muthomi Njuki said his administration was keen on empowering the agriculture sector, stating that his tenure had seen the county become food secure.
“Tharaka Nithi County is no longer a hunger-prone region because we have invested heavily in the agriculture sector especially through the provision of certified seeds and subsidized Artificial Insemination (AI) services,” Governor Njuki said.
Farmers lauded the initiative and appealed for more similar programs.
