Kibera court has jailed for one year, a middle aged man who destroyed a vehicle that had been detained at Kilimani police station and stole some of the motor vehicle parts five days ago.
The suspect, James Mutua Kitheka, 53, Thursday last week admitted having stolen the Toyota Prado’s door switch worth Sh40, 000, that was held at the station as an exhibit.
He was arrested by a breakdown attendant who found him stealing the switch on June 8.
Documents submitted in court showed that Mr Kitheka went to the car, opened it and removed the switch which he hid in the pocket before walking towards the station gate where he was intercepted.
In his mitigation, the accused sought a non-custodial sentence saying he was not in his right sense as was under medication and that he was the breadwinner for his family and three children.
Resident Magistrate Jacqueline Ojwang however jailed him for one year or to pay a Sh100, 000 fine.
