One person has been killed and another injured in a bandit attack at Kom-Durte area in Merti Sub-County where a security operation meant to flush out armed criminals is ongoing.
Reports indicate that the two herders were ambushed by an unknown number of attackers suspected to have come from neighbouring Samburu County killing one on the spot.
The attack allegedly happened about 10 kilometres away from a General Service Unit (GSU) camp established last month to deal with insecurity in Chari ward.
A one-month dusk to dawn curfew in the disturbed Kom area was on June 2 extended for extra 30 days by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as the government seeks to flush out any remaining criminals in the area that has experienced a spate of attacks in the recent past.
CS Matiang’i earlier said proceeds from Kom Durte mining site that was recently closed down were funding conflict in neighboring Marsabit County with some of the funds being channeled to terrorism.
The Sunday attack comes two days after three people were killed and six others injured in Yamicha banditry attack by criminals said to have come from neighbouring Wajir County.
