Meru Senator Mithika Linturi will on Thursday (April 29) be questioned over Sh530 million bank forgery claims.
The Senator, whose arrest made the Senate suspend the ongoing debate on the Building Bridges Initiative Bill 2020, lamented that his encounter with the sleuths was an ugly one.
“The few hours I have been in the hands of DCI have not been one of my best experiences,” Mr Linturi said in Senate after he was released.
The legislator was arrested by detectives while getting into his Muthaiga home and taken to DCI headquarters along the Kiambu road over the alleged forgery.
He said it was unfortunate that he was being arrested when the crucial debate was underway noting that his contribution on behalf of Meru County residents could have been blocked.
“I find it very absurd. I could have been summoned yesterday (Tuesday) or even Monday but why today?” he posed when he was granted time by Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka to report on the predicament.
The Senator maintained that he was willing to cooperate with investigative agencies in the ongoing probe but insisted that the process must be done in a humane and respectful manner.
“I did not deserve that kind of treatment. We (Senators) require to be treated with dignity. If something is being investigated, I will appear before the investigators,” the legislator said.
The Senator will appear at the DCI HQs offices at 9 AM for further questioning.
