The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest of six police officers linked to the mysterious killing of two Embu brothers from Kianjokoma.
The directive came shortly after the office of DPP received preliminary findings file from the Inspector General of Police following separate investigations by the National Police Service.
The Independent Police Oversight Authority (Ipoa) upon conclusion of probe into the killing of Emmanuel Mutura and Benson Njiru on Monday, ordered suspension and prosecution of the officers for the crime.
Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai confirmed the suspension of the officers via his Twitter handle.
The two brothers were arrested two weeks ago (August 1) during curfew hours only for their bodies to be found lying at Embu Level Five Hospital morgue three days later.
They died from severe injuries inflicted by a blunt object on their heads and ribs, post mortem report showed. They were buried in the same grave last weekend.
One person was shot dead and two others severely injured during protests by irate residents following the killing of the two brothers.
Ipoa boss Anne Makori on Monday said the Authority’s findings had been forwarded to DPP for consideration.
“The outcome from the investigation has established a prima facie case against the (six) police officers for murder offence,” Ipoa shared in a statement.
“Based on the report (from IG) I am shortly directing the Inspector General of Police to arrest and arraign in court all the officers involved…,” said Mr Haji.
