Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been arrested for allegedly making inflammatory statement during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally in Eldoret on Saturday.
Reports indicate that the legislator was arrested in Eldoret and is being taken to Nakuru to record statement over the remarks.
Mr Linturi told Eldoret residents “Watu wa Uasin Gishu msicheze na Kenya. Nawaomba madoadoa mliyo nayo hapa muweze kuondoa. Muweze kufanya nini? Hatuwezi kuwa tunasimama na William kule Mt Kenya na Meru halafu mko na wengine hapa hawaskii na hawaungani naye. Mko tayari kutuondolea hao?”
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji yesterday directed the Inspector General of Police to initiate probe into the remarks which he noted could incite feelings of contempt, hatred, violence and discrimination.
