Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa who was accused of planning to cause chaos during Kabuchai by-election in Bungoma County last year has been acquitted for lack of enough evidence.
According to Bungoma resident magistrate John Mugute, the prosecution failed to table sufficient evidence that Mr Barasa indeed had a hand in the chaos that marred the March poll.
The legislator was arrested together with his Chesumei and Belgut counterparts Mr Wilson Kogo and Nelson Koech respectively and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei all allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
The four were arrested and taken to Bungoma police station for interrogation on March 4, 2021 shortly after they had escorted the UDA party candidate Evans Kakai to cast his vote.
Kabuchai residents were electing their MP following the death of the area legislator James Lusweti after a long illness.
