An Isiolo based college principal has been arrested for failing to submit close to Sh300, 000 paid by students for registration of the Early Childhood Development and Education examination ending today.
Catholic Diocese of Isiolo Maria Consolata Teachers Training College Principal Mr Imoti Emmanuel Ekisa reportedly received the money from more than 30 students who were to sit for the examinations but failed to remit it to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) as required.
According to the students, the teacher received the payment between March and September.
The students would on Monday be treated to a rude shock after invigilators failed to appear at the institution when they expected to do rehearsals prior to the exams that started on Tuesday.
“We were shocked that at around 11am no KNEC officials had arrived and we decided to call the teacher over the issue,” said Mr Ali Duba, one of the victims, adding that the Principal apologized for having failed to submit the cash.
Another victim Mary-Judy Ledeura said “The Principal came and told us we would not be able to sit for the examinations because he had failed to send our money in time”.
The irate students lamented that Mr Ekisa had messed up their lives adding that several of the tutors had been boycotting work over failure of the management to pay their salaries.
“It is so sad that after struggling for two years without teachers in class, finally we are not sitting for the critical examination,” said Ms Ledeura amid tears.
Police sources told The Press Point that Mr Ekisa was arrested Thursday morning and was being taken to Isiolo Police Station for interrogation over the saga.
