Two men were Monday jailed for 50 years each after a Kitale court in Trans Nzoia found them guilty of robbery with violence.

The court was told that armed with clubs (rungu) and swords, Kelvin Wangila and Amos Wanjala robbed Wycliffe Mukhwana Mulongo of Sh15, 500 and a mobile phone worth Sh2000 on June 15, 2020 at Barbton in Kiminini.

In their defence, the accused persons had before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar had denied the charges and claimed that they had been framed with Mr Wangila further saying he had no relationship with Mr Wanjala.

The victim’s family said the man died later after the attack and asked the court to hand a maximum sentence.

A probation report submitted in court indicated that a non-custodial sentence was not suitable due to nature of the offence and recommended a punitive action.

They were sentenced to 50 years in jail after the prosecution proved their culpability beyond reasonable doubt.

The pair have 14 days to appeal the ruling.
