Kenneth Muchui who scored 371 marks in 2021 KCPE examination never imagined he would ever set his foot in a Secondary school due to the wanting situation at home.
The boy lost his father, the family’s sole breadwinner, days before the onset of the national exams.
The predicament worsened the situation at home with his elder brother Patric Mutea (now the guardian) only able to afford a single meal from his meagre business.
“Despite losing our Dad during the exam period, he (Muchui) still posted good results and later got an admission letter from Kieni Mixed Secondary ,” said Mr Mutea.
He immediately after the results were announced reached out to several political leaders but the efforts were futile dimming his remaining hopes of ever joining a Secondary school.
The challenges forced him to remain at home for several weeks after his colleagues joined Form One across the country.
But unknown to him, he would be listed as among the over 100 beneficiaries of Isiolo North MP aspirant Mwenda Thuranira’s Sh12 million scholarships.
“I was stressed up but I am grateful because I will now be able to join secondary school and achieve my dreams,” elated Muchui said.
The student is among dozens of learners who reported to Mukaragatine Mixed Secondary school in Meru courtesy of the businessman-cum-politician’s aid.
Reports indicate that hundreds of learners in Isiolo are yet to join secondary school due to high levels of poverty with majority of them having unsuccessfully applied for Equity’s Wing to Fly and government’s Elimu scholarships.
