In this technologically advanced 21st Century, all what any world citizen needs to obtain information about anything is Google.
At nation-to-nation level, most countries have diplomatic missions, whose major role is to promote their national interests.
Those missions file briefs back home in daily and need-to-know basis.
Whereas information about ordinary citizens and dignitaries is processed through the normal visa application procedures, dignitaries are processed with keener interest, which might involve background intelligence information.
No diplomatic mission can process a travel clearance for dignitaries without alerting their governments.
These diplomatic protocols are important because such dignitaries could be traveling for official or private business.
By the time a foreign dignitary lands into another country, thorough intelligence briefs about them, their missions and travel itinerary is well known to the host countries.
Countries with advanced intelligence gathering systems such as the US, Britain, Israel, Germany etc have mountains of information about almost every aspects of what is important to their interests in all countries of the world, Kenya notwithstanding.
The Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto has been trending in social media after his visit to the US elicited mixed reactions.
In his speeches, Ruto told his audiences that Kenya is currently led despotically and there are fears that this years’ election could be rigged in favour of a certain leader.
In a departure from the expected official line, as a sitting Deputy President of an independent country, Dr William Ruto indirectly accused his President of trying to impose a president on Kenyans.
He went ahead to say that like in the Ukraine, whereby Russia is committing atrocities, democracy and human rights is in jeopardy in Kenya.
The DP urged America to assist Kenyans to protect the Constitution and democracy.
The DP who is yet to finalise his official trip abroad has thrown caution in the air and decided to malign his president and country.
Whether what the DP is alleging is true or not, the fact of the matter is that he has broken a cardinal diplomatic principle by advancing personal instead of national interests during his official tour abroad.
Why would Ruto assumes that the US officials and Kenyans in the Diaspora are ignorant of housekeeping issues in his country?
Does the DP thinks that instead of promoting the good image of his country, which any foreign leader would do, it will influence those he hopes will assist him ascend to the presidency?
Can foreign countries such as the US trust a DP who badmouth and undermines his country for political and leadership expediency?
Furthermore, is it true that the US and British government officials and private institutions are ignorant of who the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto is, conduct, character and all?
Studying the DP as he delivered stinging indignation about his country, he came out as a weather-beaten, forlorn and hopeless personality, whose mission abroad was to seek sympathy for reasons better understood by himself.
Here is a DP who sought official travel clearance, which was seamlessly granted by the State, who was accorded all official and diplomatic protocols locally and abroad and he castigates his country and government of abusing human rights, muzzling democracy and planning to rig elections.
Who in their right state of minds can believe such allegations?
Perhaps the DP supporters might find his behaviour palatable because of the obvious reasons, but what the DP is doing in foreign countries is not only detrimental to the economy but damaging to the Kenya image among the community of nations.
Nobody knows what the DP’s motives are or what he expects to achieve when he discourages investors and tourists to visit Kenya.
Ruto may have decided to shed official clothing and wear private political attire in order to convince Americans and the Diaspora that he is fit to lead Kenya, but he has failed miserably because of what he is uttering and who he is- a sitting DP.
Essentially, Ruto has taken the political game to the wrong audience and managed to spoil his chances with the right audience back home.
As they say, even if your mother is naken, you don’t run across town shouting about her nudity because you will look and be perceived as insensitive, careless and stupid!
When Ruto and his entourage return to the country, they will wake out of the dizziness, which has clouded their better judgements while abroad and experience a shock when they fail to explain to Kenyans what they have achieved for the country during their globetrotting.
Ruto’s memory will revert back to factory settings and realise he is back in Kenya whereby Kenya is our business- politically speaking!
Samsonic option is therefore dead on arrival in this country. Period!
