Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, a Deputy President William Ruto’s ally, has been vindicated after investigators failed to conclude probe within the required time.
The prosecution, court documents show, also did not prefer any changes against the legislator, who is said to be angling for the Meru gubernatorial seat in the August polls, resulting to closure of the file.
The MP was arrested in early January for allegedly making hateful remarks during DP Ruto’s rally in Eldoret which authorities said could incite feelings of contempt, hatred, violence and discrimination.
Before his arraignment, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission said the words were calculated to be hateful and likely to affect harmonious coexistence between the Kalenjin and other communities.
Mr Linturi was out on Sh5 million bond.
Reports however indicate that the Director of Public Prosecutions was considering re-introducing the case in court after some inadequacies in the probe are addressed.
