Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti could pick a county official as his deputy in the forthcoming elections, reports indicate.
Sources close to the longest serving politician in the county revealed that Dr Kuti could pick his running mate from either Somali or Ameru community.
But who to settle on will be agreed after former Governor Godana Doyo makes the first move.
Borana community elders recently revealed that Mr Doyo will pick a Somali deputy but The Press Point is reliably informed that the decision could be reconsidered to accommodate concerns by some communities.
The elders reportedly reached the resolution without adequate consultations with among others Mr Doyo who is Dr Kuti’s main challenger in the race that has also attracted ex-EACC boss Halakhe Waqo.
Having had Mohammed Guleid as his deputy during his tenure, Mr Doyo could be forced to pick a running mate from either Turkana or Ameru communities as picking Somali deputy could portray him as selfish and biased.
Dr James Loasa who recently shelved his Isiolo North MP ambitions in support of ex-MP Joseph Samal is touted as among those likely to deputize Mr Doyo who unsuccessfully vied with a Turkana deputy Barnabas Esunyen in 2017.
Picking a deputy from Turkanas with 10, 000 votes will give Mr Doyo an edge over Governor Kuti whose reelection quest is pegged on support from other communities especially the non-Muslims.
Having allegedly resolved to support Isiolo North MP aspirant from Turkana community, Governor Kuti’s plan is to either pick Ameru or Somali deputy with latter likely where the former will benefit with either Assembly Speaker or County Secretary post.
Former Isiolo Land Executive Yusuf Dahir, who resigned last week, is said to be among those Dr Kuti could settle for.
