A man believed to be part of a gang that has been terrorising Kulamawe residents at night is fighting for his life at Isiolo Referral Hospital after he was beaten up by irate mob.
The suspect is part of three men who attacked two people on Thursday night and robbed them unknown amount of money and other valuables before they were cornered by the public.
The criminals first attacked a young man outside his home gate with metallic rods and pangas badly wounded him leaving him for the dead around 9PM. They stole his phone and unknown amount of money.
They later confronted another man near Waso Secondary School and stole his phone and other personal stuff before breaking into some shops at Soko Mjinga area.
They would minutes later be seen by some residents who immediately ran after them and cornered the rider with the two others managing to escape into the dark.
The badly injured suspect was rescued by police officers who rushed him to the Referral hospital where he is admitted.
Residents have, following the triple attacks, appealed to police to intensify patrols in the area.
They said robbery cases were on the rise in the area and had adversely affected business as they were being forced to close businesses early.
“We have severally complained over the attacks (to police) which disappear and then reemerge but nothing has been done. None of our leaders speak over the issue which has spread fear and panic among the public and badly affected businesses,” one of the residents said.
They called for erection of security lights and increased night patrols in the area.
Police are banking on the suspect to get information on the identity and whereabouts of the two others who are still at large.
Residents demanded thorough probe into the attacks saying they could be aimed at sparking fear among residents for political motives.
